Attack on BJP Leader Navneet Rana
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Navneet Rana and her supporters were allegedly attacked by a mob during an election rally in Maharashtra’s Amravati district on Saturday. The incident occurred in Khallar village, where Rana was campaigning for BJP candidate Ramesh Bundile, who is contesting from Daryapur in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Details of the Incident
According to Amravati (Rural) Superintendent of Police Vishal Anand, the attack happened around 10 pm when Rana and her supporters arrived at a public meeting. Some individuals in the crowd allegedly used objectionable words and made lewd gestures towards her. Chairs were also thrown at Rana and her supporters, leading to a clash between her supporters and those who heckled her.
Police Action and FIR
Following the incident, Rana filed a complaint at a nearby police station. The police have registered an FIR under sections of rioting, attempt to murder, and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Five individuals have been named in the FIR, while 40 others remain unidentified. Three people have been detained so far.
Upcoming Elections
The polling for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly is scheduled to take place in a single phase on November 20, with the counting of votes set for November 23, alongside the Jharkhand elections.
