Vijay’s Party Denies AIADMK Alliance Rumors
In a detailed post on X Monday, Tamil actor-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), flagged a report by a major Tamil daily and dismissed rumors of an alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) before the 2026 Assembly election. The party stated that these rumors were “completely false (and) without evidence.”
TVK’s Stand on 2026 Election
TVK announced its intention to contest the 2026 election without any allies, expressing confidence in winning a majority “with the help of the people of the country based on policies expressed (by Vijay).” TVK General Secretary Anand urged the people of Tamil Nadu to ignore such “untrue and false news” spread by some political commentators through media and social media.
Origins of the Rumors
Talk of an AIADMK-TVK deal emerged after Vijay, while launching his party, identified the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as his primary political opponent and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as his primary ideological opponent. Vijay did not mention the AIADMK, which has been sparing in its criticism of TVK, leading to speculation about a possible alliance.
Vijay’s High-Profile Rally
The 50-year-old actor held a high-profile rally in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district late last month, where he declared his party’s ideology and goals. At the event, he attacked the DMK over the sale of alcohol via government-controlled shops and criticized the BJP’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal.
Political Spat with DMK
The spat between the DMK and TVK intensified after Chief Minister MK Stalin accused new political parties of trying to eliminate his party. Although he did not mention Vijay or TVK by name, Stalin declared, “We don’t have to respond to others… we don’t want to waste time.”
